Leaving “The Old World”Harry Belenky, the founder of Belenky Brothers was a man of vision and dreams. These dreams propelled him to risk abandoning the stability of his homeland and leave family, friends and a secure family business to seek a future in the “new world”. Arriving on Ellis Island without money or contacts he overcame his obstacles and began a jewelry firm that was to last many decades. Over the years the business grew and prospered. When Harry’s daughter married, her husband Bert Bloomgarden entered the firm and when Harry’s son Larry returned from World War II he also joined the company. As time progressed his grandson David became a member of Belenky Brothers, and today his great-grandson Seth has become a vital part of the firm. SoHoFor most of the last century, Belenky Brothers remained at the same location in downtown NYC. They had become a mainstay, a grounding force in the area, so much so that movies and television shows were filmed at their location. At first the idea of a move was reluctantly discussed, but in time and with the same adventuresome spirit of Harry, the notion of combining their art business with the fine jewelry business crystallized into an exciting concept. In October 1996, Belenky Brothers and Belenky Gallery opened their new location in SoHo. This innovative concept of art and fine jewelry is new, but the quality, reliability and trust remain the same as in the days of the founders. TodayToday Belenky Brothers and Belenky Gallery are known world wide. Their clients are from some of the most exotic parts of the world, such as Bhutan, Uruguay, China, and Africa, and from all walks of life, ranging from high profile celebrities, politicians, royalty and local residents, members of the stock market and merchants. The partners have scoured the globe in search of unique jewelry and fine art. Lucette Bloomgarden, an international speaker, was honored to be chosen to deliver the Keynote Address at the JCK exhibition ( the largest and most important exhibition in America) in Las Vegas. David and Lucette were recently given a VIP tour by DeBeers, of the Premier Diamond Mine in South Africa. Seth has traveled to remote and undeveloped parts of Brazil in search of fine gemstones. Recently, David and Lucette traveled to Cuba searching for both creative designers and artists. Belenky Brothers and Belenky Gallery reflect the innovation and fine quality of the amalgamation of a long time family business and an exciting contemporary SoHo gallery.
